The Many Faces of Dry Eye - a Primary Care Perspective

A primary care perspective: Dry eye is one of the most vexing entities encountered by clinicians today.  Recognising there is often a "disconnect" between patient symptoms and examination findidngs, and that dry eye has multiple etiologies further complicates clinical presentations.  This part of the lecture provides a systematic approach to differentially diagnosing dry eye as well as a strategic approach to it's management.

A Secondary care perspective : Traditionally Dry Eye is both a symptom and a diagnosis. Increasing it is recognized as “dysfunctional tear syndrome”.  History, symptoms and physical signs help elucidate the dysfunctional components in any given case.  Diagnostic tests are largely adjunctive.  Modern treatments attempt to address tear deficiency and its cause.
