IOP and Glaucoma: Corneal Biomechanics and New IOP Measuremnt Tools

This course will look at the role intraocular pressure (IOP) plays in the development of glaucoma.  Recent studies have pointed to IOPs importance in the development of glaucoma. New information has indicated that in addition to corneal thickness, stiffness and rigidity also play roles in measurement errors. Also, risk calculators and their role in the management of ocular hypertension will be discussed.

Speakers:

Key learning points:

  1. Role of Intraocular pressure in the development of glaucoma.
  2. Understand how the IOP may be corrupted and not entirely accurate.
  3. Different issues in regards to corneal properties that may impact upon IOP measurements.
  4. Understand the general concept of risk assessment and how it applies to disease management.
  5. Understand the new risk calculators and how they are used in the management of ocular hypertension.
