Doughty, Michael

Michael Doughty received his BSc degree in biochemistry from the University of London (UK) in 1974. He then undertook graduate studies at the University of Warwick (UK) and received degrees in molecular enzymology (MSc) and chemistry and molecular biology (PhD). He received postdoctoral training in corneal physiology (Stanford University Medical Centre, California, USA) and then joined the faculty of the University of Waterloo (Canada) in 1974.  He was promoted through to full professor by 1995 and, in the same year, took a research chair at Glasgow-Caledonian University. Professor Doughty has taught ocular and basic pharmacology for over 20 years as has authored three texts ("Drugs, Medications and the Eye", "General Pharmacology for Primary Eye Care", and “Ocular Pharmacology & Therapeutics: A primary care guide”), as well as writing regularly on ocular therapeutics. Professor Doughty is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, and a diplomate of the cornea and contact lens section of the academy.
