Association of Optometrists

About the AOP

Council

The Council of the Association consists of 45 councillors elected by the AOP membership, with one third of the seats being subject to re-election each year.

28 members are elected to represent geographical constituencies (Constituencies by Locality), 8 to represent self-employed optometrists, 7 to represent employed optometrists, 1 to represent hospital optometrists and 1 to represent dispensing opticians.

The Council ensures that the Board of Directors is well-informed of the opinions of members, local associations and LOCs and AOC’s and provides a forum for discussion of the important topics facing the profession.

It also elects the Association’s Directors.

Council meets twice a year; in November and in May. During the two day meeting in May the Association’s Annual General Meeting is also held.
