The Eye Health Alliance is a coalition of the optical bodies and other groups within the eye care sector working together to promote eye health for all.
Aims
Members of the EHA
The AOP is a founding member of the Eye Health Alliance which campaigns on public health issues surrounding eye care. The Alliance raises awareness of the health benefits of sight testing and the need to reduce preventable sight loss. Other members of the Alliance include the Association of British Dispensing Opticians, College of Optometrist, the Federation of Manufacturing Opticians, Federation of Ophthalmic and Dispensing Opticians, the General Optical Council, and charities such as the International Glaucoma Association, and the RNIB.
EHA Events
Our first event of the year will be the Royal College of Nurses Annual Congress where we will be promoting the importance of eye care for patients especially for older people. Furthermore, we will discuss the availability of NHS services including the domiciliary service with nurses and how important they are for those unable to attend a local optical practice.
In June the Alliance will be exhibiting at the NHS Confederation Annual Conference in Manchester which is attended by various professions within the NHS including PCT and GP commissioners.
As Vice-Chair of the Health Hotel the Alliance will be attending the Political Party Conferences in September and early October where we will be involved in a series of events on the big health issues.
In late October we will exhibit at the NHS Alliance Annual Conference which is attended by commissioners and other health care professionals.
